Summary: A rash of bizarre murders in New York City seems to point to a group of grotesquely deformed vagrants living in the sewers. A courageous policeman, a photo journalist and his girlfriend, and a nutty bum, who seems to know a lot about the creatures, band together to try and determine what the creatures are and how to stop them.
My Rating:
My Review: A classic campy B-Horror flick. This movie takes three protagonists, starts them out solo, and brings them together to battle a common cause. A police detective, a journalist and a soup kitchen minister. Together they uncover a conspiracy beneath the streets of New York city. When the homeless underground dwellers begin to mutate into flesh eating cannibals, they threaten the society that thrives above. The cannibalistic humanoid underground dwellers aren't the only danger in this movie. There are those above ground who would keep the mystery covered up. When the protagonists start to meddle in these secretive affairs, they're harassed, followed and threatened. Despite the low budget and sub-par acting, this movie had excellent pacing, dedicated performances, and a pretty good plot. It may have been campy, but it was good. Very good. 4 out of 5.

Summary: Cambridge University student Brian Roberts arrives in Berlin in 1931 to complete his German studies. Without much money, he plans on making a living teaching English while living in an inexpensive rooming house, where he befriends another of the tenants, American Sally Bowles. She is outwardly a flamboyant, perpetually happy person who works as a singer at the decadent Kit Kat Klub, a cabaret styled venue. Sally's outward façade is matched by that of the Klub, overseen by the omnipresent Master of Ceremonies. Sally draws Brian into her world, and initially wants him to be one of her many lovers, until she learns that he is a homosexual, albeit a celibate one. Among their other friends are his students, the poor Fritz Wendel, who wants to be a gigolo to live a comfortable life, and the straight-laced and beautiful Natalia Landauer, a Jewish heiress. Fritz initially sees Natalia as his money ticket, but eventually falls for her. However Natalia is suspect of his motives and cannot ...
My Rating:
My Review: One of the 13 titles by this name. This movie is directed by Bob Fosse (All That Jazz, Damn Yankees), starring Liza Minnelli, Michael York, Helmut Griem, and others. Here's the a fantastic play brought to the big screen. The story is set in Berlin during the 30's. Here is decadent Berlin just before the rise of the Nazis. It's a raucous city, brimming with unbridled ambition, a morally ambiguous deception grips the party goers. It drives them - the characters, the city, the country, from a care-free ethic of me first to a selfish ethic of me only. Liza Minelli is a sexy, steamy, powerhouse, full of vivacious energy. She plays Sally Bowles, an expatriate American dancer at the Kit-Kat club. She falls in love with the bi-sexual Brian (Michael York), but she's unfaithful - and so is he. They both fall for the rich playboy Maximilian. Max loves them both, then leaves them both. The movie is full of historical allegory, fantastic music, dancing and acting. The characters can see what's coming. They know that what they're doing is wrong. Unfortunately, they're incapable of stopping. Great editing, pacing and directing. Won 8 Oscars!

Collection ID 281
Director: Ben Stiller
Starring: Jim Carrey, Matthew Broderick, Leslie Mann, Jack Black, George Segal
Genre: Comedy
Studio: Columbia Pictures Corporation   Release date: 1996   Rated: PG-13
Language (Country): German, English, English, French, Italian, Spanish (USA)
Summary: One man wants free cable while his strangely possesive cable guy wants a new friend.
My Rating:
My Review: A dark comedy with a great cast - Jim Carey, Matthew Broderick, Leslie Mann and Jack Black. I really like this dark, tragic comedy. I had no idea it was directed by Ben Stiller! He did a surprisingly good job. This movie is a bold and striking tale of dramatic tragedy. Jim Carey dared to play a dark disturbed individual with a twisted sense of humor. I think he pulled it off perfectly. The movie did an excellent job of blending bitter and sweet, creating a dark choclate cinematic confection with just the right bitter bite for a Saturday night. The music was great, there were plenty of fan favorite cameo appearance (Jeneane Garofalo - as a serving wench, Ben Stiller - as twin murderer/victim, Andy Dick - as MC of Medieval Times, and Owen Wilson - as an abused boyfriend), and I can't imagine anyone other than Carey playing the role of the socially mal-adjusted cable guy. I could care less for Matthew Broderick. I find all his performances whiny, lacking in substance, a little bit patronizing and slightly sophomoric. Despite his bumbling 'loveable charm' cast-type acting, this movie gets a 5 out of 5.

Studio: Orion Pictures   Release date: 1980   Rated: R

Summary: Comical goings on at an exclusive golf club. All the members are wealthy and eccentric, and all the staff are poor and slightly less eccentric. The main character is 'Danny'; he's a caddy who will do almost anything to raise money to go to college. There are many subplots, including the assistant green keeper's pursuit of a cute (obviously stuffed) gopher.
