My Rating:
My Review: Not the cutesy animated story about a bug. This 1970's horror flick is a 'B' movie in the 1950's sense. full of preposterous plot material, poor acting, and cheesy synthesizer music. The best part about this movie was the book it was based on. I read the book ages and ages ago, and I saw the movie about as long ago. Unfortunately, I'd forgotten just how bad the movie was. While the screen play did a pretty good job of sticking with the book, it was nowhere as good as the book. I give this movie a 1 out of 5. It's been a while since something earned a 1, but this one is a definite 'must avoid' masterpiece.

Collection ID 353
Director: Ernest R. Dickerson
Starring: Damon Wayans, Adam Sandler, James Caan, Jeep Swenson, James Farentino
Genre: Action
Studio: Universal Pictures   Release date: 1996   Rated: R
Language (Country): English, French, Spanish (Billy Madison only) (USA)
Summary: An undercover police officer named Rock Keats befriends a drug dealer and car thief named Archie Moses in a bid to catch the villainous drug lord Frank Coltan. But the only problem is that Keats is a cop, his real name is Jack Carter, and he is working undercover with the LAPD to bust Moses and Colton at a sting operation the LAPD has set up.
My Rating:
My Review: It's the Rock & Archie show. A cop buddy movie starring Adam Sandler as Archie Moses (small time criminal) and Rock Keats aka Officer Jack Carter (played by Damon Wayans); an undercover narcotics officer working for the LAPD. Keats is Archie's best friend. They're in on Colton's (Frank Colton played by James Caan) gang when the big drug bust goes wrong. Rock and Archie are left pointing guns at each other when the dust clears. That's when Archie shoots Rock in the head! Fast forward a few months and Rock is recruited to escort Archie back to L.A. in order to stand trial. He's testifying against his old crime boss Colton. Unfortunately for Rock & Archie, Colton's not about to give up quite so easily. With a price on his head, Archie and Keats are both targets in this action packed comedy. The acting was o.k. the direction quite good. The pacing excellent. The best part of this movie was easily the chemistry between Sandler and Wayans. Both men were in the prime of their comedy careers when this film came along. Underrated to this day; I found the movie entertaining, funny and thrilling - despite it rather tired story. I give it a 4 out of 5.

Studio: Focus Features   Release date: 2008   Rated: R

Summary: Osbourne Cox, a Balkan expert, resigned from the CIA because of a drinking problem, so he begins a memoir. His wife wants a divorce and expects her lover, Harry, a philandering State Department marshal, to leave his wife. A CD-ROM falls out of a gym bag at a Georgetown fitness center. Two employees there try to turn it into cash: Linda, who wants money for cosmetic surgery, and Chad, an amiable goof. Information on the disc leads them to Osbourne who rejects their sales pitch; then they visit the Russian embassy. To sweeten the pot, they decide they need more of Osbourne's secrets. Meanwhile, Linda's boss likes her, and Harry's wife leaves for a book tour. All roads lead to Osbourne's house.
My Rating:
My Review: Written and directed by Ethan and Joel Coen (Raising Arizona, Miller's Crossing, Barton Fink, The Hudsucker Proxy, Fargo, The Big Lebowski, The Man Who Wasn't There, True Grit (2010 remake)). Starring Brad Pitt, Frances McDormand, George Clooney, John Malkovich and many others. A dark comedic drama. A parody of the 'oh so serious' intelligence stereotype. We're so used to the Super-Secret Super-Hero, All-Powerful portrayals of government agencies; this movie comes as a breath of fresh air in the genre. Extremely well written, edited, and directed. The story is one of mediocrity in the realm of government employment. John Malkovich plays a mid-level cold-warrior entrenched in the CIA. When he's let go by the government, he decides to take his secrets and write a 'tell-all' memoir of his days in the belly of the beast. His notes end up in the hands of an unlikely pair (Brad Pitt and Frances McDormand) of bumbling fitness center employees. When the 'classified' notes are discovered, this pair of unlikely espionage agents decide to attempt their hand at black-mail. The results are ridiculous, funny, and darkly sarcastic. The characters are absolutely believable, ridiculously real, and completely comedic. The acting was outstanding and the writing a joy. Worth watching multiple times. If you insist on serious action with explosions and dramatic shoot-outs, avoid the wry wit and patient pacing of this particular pic. 5 out of 5.

Collection ID 542
Director: Eric Bress, J. Mackye Gruber
Starring: Ashton Kutcher, Melora Walters, Amy Smart, Elden Henson, William Lee Scott
Genre: Drama
Studio: BenderSpink   Release date: 2004   Rated: R
Language (Country): English (USA)
Summary: A young man (Kutcher) blacks out harmfull memories of significant events of his life. As he grows up he finds a way to remember these lost memories and a supernatural way to alter his life.
My Rating:
My Review: The cast was too young. Overall poor casting, Ashton Kutcher didn't do very well in this role. His acting was unconvincing, and I didn't believe in his character. Amy Smart wasn't much better. Some of the child actors did a very good job. Especially Logan Lerman as the young Evan Treborn, and the plot wasn't the greatest. Boy blacks out, starts keeping a journal. Later he discovers that reading the journal can allow him to re-live the black outs. Not only does he remember what happened, he can change what happened. It's a time travel movie. I liked the chaos theory and time travel aspects of the movie, I just wish the acting and screen playe were better.
