Junk

Junk Drawer

What can you learn from the contents of someones Junk Drawer? I have no idea. But I'll bet that there are a lot of egg-heads out there who do. I thought it might be somewhat amusing and insightful to let you see the contents of my Junk Drawer.

If you visit someones' home you probabaly wouldn't try to do this. You might think about it, but getting caught could be embarrasing. You can always get away with looking in the medicine cabinet, but not the Junk Drawer... because you don't know quite which drawer is the Junk Drawer. They're not as conspicously labeled or located. Well here's the perfect opportunity...

"Please excuse me, I have to go walk the dog. Make yourself at home, I'll be back in about thirty minutes or so."

O.k. He's gone, let's check it out. Let's see... Bedroom? Nah, this guys a geek. Check the other room, let's see if we can find an office. What did I tell you? A computer. Check the chest of drawers next to the computer. Booyah! Let's see what we've got...

Look in the drawer

When I first thought of this idea it seemed lame. As if I were running out of things to do. Now that I've had time to think about it, I think it's pretty neat. Something of an experiment in psychology and sociology. I wonder how many people will - given the opportunity; open the Junk Drawer, and rummage through the contents? Originally (back in the 20th Century (Page originally posted on Oct 31st of 1999) I had counters on both pages. So I (and visitors) could see how many people had visited the page(s). Those counters stopped working long ago, but my hosting provider (and the Internet Archive - aka the Internet WayBack machine) still keeps records, so I can check on the page's popularity and very basic statistics (no persistent cookies/cookies of any sort, just raw access info). The page(s) were most popular in 2004 and again in 2020 (during the pandemic).

It's an intriguing proposition, wouldn't you agree? I wonder what's in the Junk Drawer? Might there be something revealing, something controvercial, something forbidden!? Well, now's your chance. Quickly then, before he comes back..
